Lovely to meet you!
Christéne van Wyk
Creative Personal Coach/Visual Arts Teacher/Owner & Founder

As a child, I found comfort and joy in the vibrant world of art and creativity. Singing, dancing, drawing and playing the piano were more than just hobbies. They were an essential part of my daily life that sparked my imagination and brought me a deep sense of happiness. Even as I grew older and pursued a rewarding career in education, creativity remained at the heart of everything I did, inspiring both my personal and professional journey.
In 2021, I brought together my lifelong love of teaching and creativity by founding How Great Thou Art. Drawing on my years of experience and formal qualifications, I created a welcoming space where people of all ages can explore a wide range of art forms in a supportive and encouraging environment. My passion is helping others discover the joy, confidence and personal growth that creativity can bring through inspiring art classes, workshops and shared creative experiences.

"Although I have spent many years gaining formal qualifications and developing my professional knowledge, my heart has always belonged to creativity. Creating art has never simply been a hobby for me. It has shaped my journey, influenced my career and inspired the way I teach, encourage and support others. Every qualification I have earned has been driven by a desire to better understand people and to use creativity as a way to help them grow, heal and discover their own potential."
Why "How Great Thou Art?"
People often ask me why I chose the name How Great Thou Art. For me, it carries a very special meaning. As a Christian, I believe that every opportunity, talent and blessing I have received comes from God. Choosing this name is my way of expressing gratitude for the journey He has led me on and for the gift of creativity that has shaped my life.
At the same time, the name is a play on words. It celebrates the greatness of art and the incredible impact it can have on our lives. I have witnessed firsthand how creativity can bring joy, hope, healing, confidence and connection. Art has the ability to express what words often cannot, and I believe it has the power to transform lives in remarkable ways.
While my faith is an important part of who I am, my studio is a welcoming place for everyone. Regardless of your beliefs, background or artistic experience, you are warmly invited to come and create. My hope is that every person who walks through the door feels accepted, encouraged and inspired to discover the many benefits that creativity can bring.
My desire is to build a community where people can slow down, express themselves freely, learn new skills, connect with others and experience the joy that art has to offer. That is what How Great Thou Art is all about. It is a celebration of creativity, community and the remarkable gift of art.
